Kali on the Viliv S5 (Update 1)
This is just a quick update. No images for now, all images will be in the final post. Kali Linux is installed alongside XP and is being upgraded. The installation was normal, no different from installing on a normal x86 PC. Forced to use regular installer as graphic installer was too slow, but that is what lxde is for. Warning, it may fail to detect the installer files a few times, just mount before you do anything else and it should be fine. No black screen fix needed in grub. The resolution is terrible, but I can fix that later. The secondary mini USB port does not seem to be enabled by default, likely controlled by the SDIO port. Will use ndiswrapper and cabextractor to enable the touchscreen, SDIO, wifi (dependent on SDIO), gps, and 3G. Will use the drivers provided by this forum to enable the wifi if this does not work.
Putting Kali on a Viliv S5
Ok, background time. So the Viliv S5 is a UMPC from the early 2000's. It runs Windows XP 2003 Home Edition. It's got one of those 32 bit atom processors in it. My mission is to get Kali Linux running on it. You'd think this would be an easy task, it being x86 based and all, but apparently the device has some peculiarities, including.
So based on this information, my priorities will be to figure out how much of the 23GB windows has afforded to it is actually necessary and how far it can be shrunk, get GParted booted and change that up, get kali installed and Grub fixed, and get all of the peripherals working so I don't have to take up space on my one USB drive. Here are some tantalizing images of the device's ports and it running linux, apologies for not formatting them first, they'll be in a proper post later.

- Wifi Chip off by default because of how the SDIO is handled
- 3G modem hooked up to a TV antenna, really janky Chinese construction
- Touchscreen is PS2 based with a weird protocol governing it and no official linux drivers
- One USB port that is turned on by default and bootable, one USB mini port that may be turned off by default
- Looks like it has a nice PCI-E slot, but I'm not sure it's on by default either
